Started in 1965, Cheshire DisAbility Services PNG is one of the leading implementing non-governmental (NGO) and charitable organisation for Persons with Disabilities and those who are at a higher risk of developing disabilities in PNG. Cheshire provides interventions which increase adequate access to Health and Rehabilitation, Education, Livelihoods and Social Development for Persons with Disabilities so that they can enjoy their full human rights and become full and active members of the society. The organization, has a vast experience in providing a wide range of disability inclusive development services .With priority interventions in all types of disabilities which started in the National Capital District, Cheshire has expanded its programs to other provinces including ,the wider Central, Milne Bay, Southern Highlands Provinces and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. Persons with disabilities, their families and friends are directly involved in the planning and designs of programs and implementation process of activities through participatory approaches. The day to day operations of the organization and programs activities is currently supported through fundraising initiatives, and formal Private Public Partnership arrangements with both national and international partners.
Board membership and positions: There are 8 volunteer board members with Chairman, vice Chairman, treasurer and secretary positions and 5 members. Sub-committee for the board exist as per the organogram shown. Diversity of skills exist among board members ranging from legal, business entrepreneurship, banking, finance and management. Board meetings: initially, the board maintained monthly meetings until July 2017 when bi-monthly meetings schedule was adopted by the board.
